Lorenzo Melegari
Lorenzo Melegari, born in Parma (Italy) in 1974 is an independent filmmaker and producer.
His first feature-length documentary, Dentro il Collettivo (Into the Movement) (2020), which tells from the inside the story of a young political collective, was selected at 11 international festivals, winning the Audience Award at the Torino Underground Cinefest and the Best Italian Documentary Award at Ragff Venezia.
Rompere gli argini (Breaking the Banks) (2024) is a film that addresses the themes of exclusion and mental fragility through the experience of deinstitutionalization, using an intimate and poetic approach that blends fiction and documentary.
Both films, because of their cultural and social relevance, have been presented in high schools and at Universities.
He is currently working on “Searching for a Balkan Blues”, a documentary about the power of music to be a universal language through an exciting journey from Spain to Bosnia.
Lorenzo holds a degree in Political Science at the University of Bologna, a master in cinematography at the “Luchino Visconti” Civic School of Cinema in Milan, an Intermediate-Level Certificate in musical composition at the “Arrigo Boito” Academy of Parma.
His work stems from a desire to explore society, human relationships, memory, and the contemporary world. Over the years he made short films, music videos, documentaries as well as photography projects.

For Melegari documentary filmmaking is an act of listening — a craftwork on reality aimed at uncovering its beauty, revealing its hidden form, and then sharing it with people.
Each of his projects grows from direct human contact and from the desire to convey people’s voices with respect, precision, and care. It’s a process that requires time — sometimes years — but that patience is precisely what makes a work unique and able to stay alive through time.
