Synopsis
The story is about Art Lab, a social centre in Parma. A group of students occupy a building belonging to the University and abandoned for 20 years. Protected by those walls, changing the world together seems possible again.
A generation of young people feels under attack by the financial crisis and tries to react. In 7 years of occupation, these young people set up many projects: an italian school for foreigners, a free bike repair shop, an anti-racist football team, several cultural events. But believing in certain values and pursuing them to the end involves personal risks too: they violently clash with institutions, private companies, politicians, the police.
Art Lab is a project of radical change of society along the fine line between legality and justice. Can youngsters still change the world?

Director’s statement
The basic idea was to try something never dared before, that is to say to narrate “from the inside” an occupied social center. The social center is a physical space made up of people who build their own “idea of the world” at 360 degrees and try to realize it concretely through anti-system actions, often
illegal acts.
These communities are in general very closed so it was a very slow and complicated process to get the trust and the permission to shoot anything. The spectators have a unique opportunity to see what they would not otherwise have seen. But above all they have the opportunity to see the world from an alternative point of view.
